To find a nursing home or intermediate care facility, you can ask friends and family that may have loved ones that have had to go through this process. They may be able to recommend an assisted living company with affordable prices. If not, they may know where to find a directory of the intermediate care facilities in your area. If you're interested in a certain place you will want to make sure they have at least one recreational activity planned for the residents each day. You can also ask if they have certified nurses, physical, speech, and occupational therapists, and professional social workers. Compare the inside of a nursing home to others to make sure it is clean and well maintained. Seniors that have medical requirements may want to look at long term care if they don't have a family member able to give them the care that they need. Some facilities will be exclusive to people that have certain medical problems while others will have a wide range of people with different disabilities living there. Ask to see what the schedule of a normal day is like to make sure they're given time to rest as well as socialize with other residents. A long term intermediate care facility will take elder family members if they have an open room. Many residential locations will be full and you will need to go on the waiting list. Before deciding on anywhere you need to look at reviews and check the government standings to make sure the company passes its inspections and has trustworthy workers.
